When it comes to expanding your home living space, one of the most effective ways to do it is to finish the basement. You can turn a full basement into an entire floor of extra living space. You may even be able to create bedrooms, install a kitchen, and add a bathroom. I created this site to share my experiences with basement renovations and construction. Three Things You Should Know About Your Home's Siding

Vinyl siding is a common type of exterior for homeowners to have. However, there are homeowners that will simply be unaware of what they need to do to maximize the results that their siding provides their home. This can lead to potentially damaging oversights and other mistakes that may impact their siding.

Know The Maintenance Needs Of Your Vinyl

While vinyl siding will not be particularly difficult to maintain, there are some steps that you should take on a regular basis to keep the siding looking great. One of these tasks will be the need to regularly clean the siding. This is needed to remove algae, mildew and moss from the exterior. Otherwise, these substances could permanently stain the siding in a way that will ruin its appearance. Removing these substances will require the siding to be thoroughly cleaned. While it is possible to remove these substances with a pressure washer, this can be very damaging to the siding if it is done incorrectly. Therefore, you may want to leave this type of work to professional siding contractors.

Inspect Your Vinyl Siding Following Strong Storms

Strong storms can be a common source of damage when it comes to vinyl siding. The wind from these storms may be able to loosen or otherwise remove the siding panels from the home's exterior. Whenever your area experiences one of these strong storms, you should thoroughly inspect your siding after it is over. If you find that one or more of these panels has started to loosen, you should act quickly to have repairs done before the next strong storm strikes your area. Otherwise, you may find that sections of the panel are ripped from the home's exterior.

Know The Signs That Your Siding Needs To Be Replaced

Eventually, your siding will suffer enough wear and tear to require being replaced. Luckily, siding is designed to last for many years before it needs to be replaced. Cracking, splitting, pulling away from the home and warping can all indicate that it is time for your siding to be replaced. Once you notice these issues, you should act quickly to replace the siding so that your home's appearance is protected. When replacing the siding, you may simply assume that you should replace it with the same type. However, modern siding has experienced a number of advances that can improve the energy efficiency of your home's siding. As a result, if you are looking at replacing your siding, you may want to opt for insulated composite siding as it may be better able to prevent unwanted heat gain or loss.
