Basement Refinishing 101

When it comes to expanding your home living space, one of the most effective ways to do it is to finish the basement. You can turn a full basement into an entire floor of extra living space. You may even be able to create bedrooms, install a kitchen, and add a bathroom. I created this site to share my experiences with basement renovations and construction. My hope is that sharing what I have learned will help others to see that it's easier than you think to finish the basement and create the space you have always envisioned in your home.

3 Reasons To Switch To A Ductless Heat Pump

Having a functional heating system is critical when it comes to maintaining a consistent temperature inside your home. While homes have traditionally relied on a series of air ducts to deliver heated air from a furnace to various rooms, modern homes can take advantage of ductless heating technology to meet their temperature control needs.

Here are three reasons why you should consider switching to a ductless heat pump in the future:

1. A ductless heat pump could save you money.

Heating systems that rely on air ducts to deliver heated air can be inefficient. In fact, anywhere from 20% to 30% of the heated air created by your home's furnace is lost due to leaky air ducts. Losing this much heated air requires your furnace to work harder in order to heat your home.

The additional workload not only places a strain on your furnace, it also requires additional energy to power your heating system. Switching to a more efficient ductless heat pump could reduce your energy consumption and help lower your monthly energy costs.

2. A ductless heat pump could increase comfort.

When it comes to keeping your home's interior comfortable during the cold winter months, the even distribution of heated air is essential. By making the choice to install a ductless heat pump in your home, you gain access to a more uniform way of heating the living spaces within your home.

Ductless pumps distribute warmed air evenly, allowing your home's interior to maintain a more constant temperature. You won't experience temperature fluctuations from one room to the next, helping to make your home more comfortable over time.

3. A ductless heat pump could improve your home's indoor air quality.

You want the air your family breathes inside your home to be as clean and healthy as possible. The interior surface of air ducts can serve as breeding grounds for mold, dust, and other substances that can pollute your indoor air.

When heated air from your furnace travels through the ducts, any contaminants within the air ducts is distributed throughout your home. A ductless heat pump eliminates the potential distribution of contaminants, helping to make your home's indoor air safer and healthier.

Once you are able to identify the unique benefits that a ductless heat pump can provide, it's easy to see why you should consider making the switch from a traditional air duct delivery system to a ductless heating system.
