Basement Refinishing 101

When it comes to expanding your home living space, one of the most effective ways to do it is to finish the basement. You can turn a full basement into an entire floor of extra living space. You may even be able to create bedrooms, install a kitchen, and add a bathroom. I created this site to share my experiences with basement renovations and construction. My hope is that sharing what I have learned will help others to see that it's easier than you think to finish the basement and create the space you have always envisioned in your home.

Have Extra Space In Your Bathroom? Start Remodeling To Add More Storage

The bathroom is where you will likely put everything related to hygiene. If you have a large bathroom, you may combat this by buying storage solutions, but you may not like that they are temporary additions. It is worth adding more permanent solutions for storage when you have extra space in the bathroom. You will benefit most from hiring a remodeling contractor as their expertise will lead to exceptional results.

Add More Cabinetry

The easiest way to fill in empty space and get more storage is to add additional cabinetry. The vanity may have cabinets, but you may want to switch it out for a vanity that takes up more space and provides more storage. Depending on the layout of your bathroom, you may even want to go for a custom vanity. This will allow you to create optimal storage setups even if the room does not have a standard layout.

Vertical Storage

It is beneficial to make use of the walls for adding storage. The vanity will take care of cabinets below the waist, but you can add cabinets that extend to the ceiling to greatly increase your storage capacity. If you get creative enough, it is even possible to take the bathroom mirror and give it storage. Two oversized, mirrored medicine cabinets placed next to each other will add lots of hidden shelves to the bathroom. Remodeling professionals can also install dedicated towel racks in several areas around the room.

Built-In Shelves

Aside from medicine cabinets, you will benefit from having shelf storage. This allows you to put up items on display that you would like to use for decorative purposes. It is also nice for displaying items that you use on a daily basis or that your family uses enough to warrant an out in the open placement.

It is hard to make use of the corners in bathrooms, but corner shelves can solve this problem. Another way that you can incorporate shelving is to build shelves into the area where the bath and shower are located. To accommodate your whole family, you can add shelves down low that make it easy for your children to reach whenever they are taking a bath or beginning to take showers on a regular basis. Then, you can keep going upward with shelves until you have enough space for all bath and shower bottles.

Adding storage is a simple but incredibly useful improvement to make to your bathroom, which is why you should consult with contracting companies such as Albrecht & Son LLC
